What is Iyengar Yoga?

Iyengar Yoga is a method of Hatha Yoga developed by B.K.S. Iyengar, one of the most influential yoga teachers of the 20th century. Known for its precision, alignment, and use of props, Iyengar Yoga helps practitioners of all levels access the benefits of each posture safely and deeply.

Props in Iyengar Yoga

Props such as blocks, belts, and bolsters are used to support the body, allowing students to perform the asanas in a way that is anatomically and physiologically correct. This enables longer holds in each posture, promoting stability, awareness, and transformation.

All poses in Iyengar Yoga are practiced in three clear stages: entering the pose, staying and adjusting with awareness, and coming out with control.

Yoga´s same  Roots

While many modern yoga styles exist, some more widely known than others, they all share the same roots in the ancient tradition of Hatha Yoga. What sets Iyengar Yoga apart is its focus on detail, thoughtful sequencing, and the integration of body, breath, and mind.
